The results of the 2024 US elections is now out. The presumptive president-elect, Donald Trump won a landslide victory while carrying with him the banner of a much "conservative" America. While others view him as a fascist demagogue, to most Christian Evangelicals, he is seen as a relief, and that Trump was chosen by God for “such a time as this.” His election now means that the Neo-Conservatism can be encouraged in the knowledge that things will get better.
But is it?
Looking at it from the Bible perspective, a different scenario emerges. While the Trump win may hold back some Left-leaning social agenda (pro-abortion, gender identity, same-sex marriage) the continuing march of prophecy should remind everyone of sobering words we must not overlook:
"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!" (2 Tim. 3:1-5)
The Bible doesn’t say that things will get better in the last days, but from "bad to worse" (2 Tim.3:13). That tells us that humanity will become even more corrupt in the long run.
Hence, early on Jesus already warned His followers, not to succumb to such pressures:
"Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another...
And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end shall be saved." (Matt. 24:9-10;12-13)
So the issue is deeper than what really concerned most Americans leading up to the election—economy, health care, immigration/border control, joblessness, wars in the Middle-East and Europe, international relations, and other social issues.
This is why we should't be sidetracked and mustn’t forget the mission of Christ. The gospel of the kingdom should always be preached with urgency and imminency.
"From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, 'Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is AT HAND.'” (Matt. 4:17)
Jesus also said that the gospel must be preached to everyone without fear or favor:
"And He said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.'" (Mark 16:15)
What people really need to hear is the preaching of the gospel that has lasting power to effect change in people lives. Jesus declared:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed." (Luke 4:18)
This is because the gospel is about true freedom and real deliverance! It is the power of God for salvation. The gospel not only saves people from the wrath to come, but it has the power to transform lives that will usher in a new government--a Kingdom where righteousness and peace will dwell.
"And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come." (Matthew 24:14)
