The Days of Noah

Seven (7) Signs of the of the Days of Noah

THE PHRASE ‘days of Noah’ was mentioned not just once but three (3) times in the New Testament. When the Scripture repeats a word or phrase two (2) times it is for sure of doubly importance; when repeated three times, it must be of extreme importance. The exhortation and warning was for everyone to take an urgent heed! Here are those verses:

“But of that day and hour no one knows,

not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. But as the DAYS OF NOAH were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.”

—Matthew 24:36-39

“And as it was in the DAYS OF NOAH, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah

entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.”—Luke 17:26-27

“…by whom also He [Christ] went and preached to the spirits in prison, who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the DAYS OF NOAH, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water.”—1 Peter 3:19-20

Seven (7) Signs of the Days of Noah

1. Days of Self-Pampered or ‘Me’ Generation --Our sinfulness, our inclination to do what is harmful, begins in our minds or hearts. Because of man's selfishness and his desires to fill himself has become so destructive. It's not just the action of man that made God grievous, but the godless state of his heart--man's authority is himself; his self-seeking, and self-directed heart and mind that was driven to sin.

“Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil [wickedness/selfishness] continually.” –Genesis 6:5

2. Days of Scientific Advances and Experimentations--Regardless of many technical interpretation of this passage, the 'mixing' (interbreeding of species/scientific, etc.) of a different beings whether of good and evil are from the very beginning, were seen as evil and nothing good comes out of it. The explorations in these areas has led to downward spiraling collapse of pre-flood society.

“There were giants [Heb. nephilim] on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men [Heb.gibor; tyrants] who were of old, men of renown.” –Genesis 6:1-2

3. Days of Social Plague/Sociopathic Mind--

The verses described man's culture as "violent" (from the Hebrew term hā'mās' agression; rage). This not only includes physical aggression, but cruelty and injustice, as well. Man has rejected God, and turned against each other's wicked destruction. The fact that this evil is so widespread is a primary reason for God's judgment.

“The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence…And God said to Noah, ‘The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.’” –Genesis 6:11-13

4. Days of Sexual Licentiousness/Perversion-- A person that is licentious means that he/she is immoral in their sexual behaviour/preference (hence, 'perversion'). Alarming stories of licentious behaviour are all to common as can be readily deduced during Noah's day which are also apparent today. Synonyms: promiscuous, immoral, lewd, debauched, licentious, etc.

“Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose.” (Gen. 6:1-2)

5. Days of False Prosperity; Get Rich Preaching--The verse describes the extent of the corruption of sin on the earth: It was everywhere. It was everyone. And it was self-inflicted. "All people" or "all flesh" had corrupted their ways to destruction. “So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.” (Gen. 6:12)

Check: “Look, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: She and her daughter had pride, fullness of food, and abundance of idleness; neither did she strengthenthe hand of the poor and needy. And they were haughty and committed abomination before Me; therefore I took them away as I saw fit. (Ezekiel 16:39-40)

6. Days of Preaching of Righteousness vis-a-vis Skeptism--The Greek word for preacher is better translated “herald” and refers to a chosen and entrusted person making public announcement. During Noah's day, the preaching of righteouness was so rare that nobody listen to him when He preached about God's moral standards and the keeping the laws and commandments (God's righteousness).

“This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect [upright] in his generations. Noah walked with God.” –Genesis 6:9

“For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly.” (2 Peter 2:4-5)

7. Days of SuddenPanic/Destruction--The day of God's wrath is seen as panic days for the fearful and wicked. The Bible tells us God's judgment follows heavenly signs, sun darkened, and moon bloodied. Natural catastrophies will become more intense and frequent (Luke 21:25). “And behold, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die.” (Gen. 6:17)

This was alluded to by apostle Paul: "For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.” (1 Thes. 5:2)

With all these characteristics becoming all too common and frequent in our days, the more we should consider our spiritual state. We need to be watchful and prayerful:

"Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.” (Luke 21:36)

Like Noah, we should be preparing and faithful to the very end:

“By faith Noah, being divinely warned of

things not yet seen, moved with godly fear,

prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.” (Hebrews 11:7)

The Lord Jesus Christ Himself summed it up:

“And because lawlessness will abound, the

love of many will grow cold. But he who

endures to the end shall be saved.

And this gospel of the kingdom will be

preached in all the world as a witness to

all the nations, and then the end will

come.” (Matthew 24:12-14)
