Idolatry--False Worship of the True God

IDOLATRY is not simply about the worship of false gods (idols), but the worship of the true God in the wrong manner (pagan ways). This is clear from God's instruction to the Israelites after crossing the Red Sea (from Egypt).

"So when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made a proclamation and said, 'Tomorrow is a feast to the Lord'...

And the Lord said to Moses, 'Go, get down! For your people whom you brought out of the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves.'" (Exo.32:6-7)

The LORD Himself called the practice "corruptions". Speaking of the way pagans worship their gods and idols, He reminded the children of Israel this way:

“When the Lord your God cuts off from before you the nations which you go to dispossess, and you displace them and dwell in their land...YOU SHALL NOT WORSHIP THE LORD GOD IN THAT WAY; for every abomination to the Lord which He hates they have done to their gods; for they burn even their sons and daughters in the fire to their gods." (Deut. 12:29,31)

But despite these clear forewarnings, why is it that God's people are acting recklessly and hell-bent in their disobedience?

The Scriptures, pointed us to another personality whose main objective is to confuse and deceive people. Jesus Himself identified him as the "Father of lies" (John 8:44). He also has his ministers promoting a counterfeit way of worship. He is Satan who is described in the Bible as able to transform himself as the "angel of light" whose ministers are "deceitful workers" and "false apostles" (Read: 2 Cor.11:13-15).

No believers of God today will openly admit that they are worshipping the Devil. But that's precisely what Satan wants everyone to think: believing that they worship the true God, but in a counterfeit way. This type of worship can be observed as "similar, but not quite". It's a mimicry. That's what syncretistic worship is all about.

Satan was so successful in this trick that prophet Daniel described his works as oppressive to the truth seeker, thus:

"He will speak against the Most High and oppress his saints and try to change the set times [holy day observances] and the laws [commandments]" (Daniel 7:25).

So these fake ministers today are saying in effect, you have the "freedom" to worship God your own way and manner. Again, ignoring and supplanting God's clear instructions on how to worship Him His way, and through His feasts or holy days.

No wonder, the Bible described this "serpent of old" to have deceived almost everyone:

"So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who DECEIVES THE WHOLE WORLD; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him." (Rev. 12:9)

God's word is not kidding! Hence, you need to examine yourself and the way you align yourself to the observances of the world.

Moreover, in the NT, the apostle Paul condemned false worship which is based on an erroneous appreciation of times and seasons. He chided the new converts in Galatia (a predominantly pagan society) for continuing to observe their "days and months and seasons and years. I am afraid for you, lest I have labored for you in vain" (Galatians 4:10-11).

Notice, the 'days, months, seasons and years' are names for pagan festivities, derived from ancient practices.

Contrast that with Colossians 2:16--

"Therefore do not let anyone judge [condemn] you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day."

We need to be worshipping God in truth and Spirit (John 4:2). We need to be seeking His path, which is good and straight.

"Thus says the Lord: 'Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls.'" (Jer. 6:16)

So these are the appointed times of the LORD to be proclaimed in its seasons:

The Seven (7) Annual Commanded Assemblies (or Moedim)--(Based on Lev. 23)*

1) 1st Day Passover (Pesach)/DUB

2) 7th Day of Unleavened Bread (Hag Hamatzot);

3) Pentecost (Shavout),

4) Trumpets (Yom Teruah)

5) Atonement (Yom Kippur)

6) Tabernacles (Sukkot), and

7) Eighth Day Feast (Shemini Atzeret)

1) Weekly--

Sabbath (Shabat) on the Seventh day (Sat).

*Some Messianic and Hebrew roots added a "feast of Firstfruits", but this is not scriptural. No mention of an assembly (mo'ed מועדים) or a holy day on this day--it's simply a priesthood task to do at the temple on a regular day. A burnt lamb is offered, together with the wave-sheaf (Lev.23:10-12). "Firstfruits" refers to the waving of sheaf (also called 'omer') by the High-priest performed after the 'high-day' Sabbath of 1st DUB. It symbolizes the "firstfruits" or early harvest of God leading (counting) to Pentecost (or feast of Weeks, the real harvest of 'Firstfruits'). Some people attached meaning to Christ's resurrection on this temple ceremony, but during this time Jesus wasn't resurrected yet (Pharisaic reckoning), nor His resurrection occurred on a sunrise Sunday to align with the wavesheaf per Saduccean way. Jesus was resurrected before the Sabbath ends (He died as a Passover sacrifice 3PM on a Wed, buried before sunset), counting three (3) days and nights--Matt.12:40.
