How to be Wise

To be wise is commonly understood to having the power of discerning and judging properly as to what is true or right. True wisdom is knowing the greatest goal in any situation, and the right way to achieve that goal. Wisdom is moral clarity more than mere intelligence or knowledge, just as it is more than being clever or cunning. The Bible's definition is straightforward. Below are seven (7) ways to be wise:

1. FEAR GOD. "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction." (see Proverbs 1:7)

2. FOLLOW GOD'S COMMANDMENTS. "Therefore be careful to observe them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who will hear all these statutes, and say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’" (Deut. 4:6)

3. MEDITATE ON GOD'S WORD. "The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes." (Psalm 19:7-8

4. LIVE ACCORDING TO GOD'S WORD. "Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom." (James 3:13)

5. RECOGNIZE YOUR BELIEVING PARENTS GUIDANCE. "Wise children take their parents' advice, but whoever makes fun of wisdom won't listen to correction." (Prov. 13:1/NCV)

6. RECOGNIZE THAT THE SOURCE OF WISDOM IS GOD HIMSELF. "Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen." (1 Tim. 1:17)

7. PRAY/ASK FOR WISDOM! "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." (James 1:5/NIV)
